Run. Walk. Explore.

If bridges could talk, what kind of stories would they tell? Connecting two communities across the Hudson River, the new Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge offers an experience for joggers, hikers, and cyclists of Hudson Valley to discover the rich history of the region. In partnership with J2, we designed all facets of the 3.5 mile shared-use path including signage, sculpture and interpretive displays that tell the story of the Hudson.

Ranging from monumental arrival moments to subtle mile markers, the clean lines and intuitive placement of the signage enhance the overall experience and ensure accessibility for every visitor. A flexible new logo mark and icon system are featured throughout the site and nearby communities, where new directional signage guides visitors toward the path’s entrances.

Bold Design, Joyful Journey

We designed the shared use path for the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge to be both functional and energizing. The path was made a vibrant blue to stand out, adding a sense of joy and energy to the experience. Poured in a specialized slip-resistant epoxy custom-color-matched to the bridge brand, the vibrant blue path has become as emblematic of the bridge as the eight sleek towers supporting its main span.

Crossing Time

We designed an interactive interpretive program for the Shared Use Path and online, allowing visitors to explore the rich history of the Hudson Valley and the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge. Engaging digital displays, graphic timelines, and installations detail the region’s impact across six themed outlooks along the path and entrances. The seamless integration of physical and digital experiences invites visitors to deepen their connection to the area’s heritage and discover the story behind the bridge.
