J2 Design and Exit Design worked with Kimco Realty to create a fresh, compelling brand identity and messaging program to transform the place and position Suburban Square for its next phase as a day-to-night work, shop, play lifestyle environment while staying relevant in today’s highly competitive retail industry.
With a mix of premier retail and dining options, proximity along the suburban Philadelphia commuter railway, and an open layout featuring art-deco architecture and a courtyard green space, Suburban Square has long served as an anchor in the community for nearly 100 years.
“Modern, Classic, Cool” is the center of the brand message that leads all brand activations, from all campaigns, website and social media, to changeable window graphics that energize leasable store fronts.
The brand identity extends into the environment to enhance the experience through site identity and wayfinding that directs visitors to parking and destinations. The flexibility and changeability of the program provides for ongoing variations of the signage elements to keep things exciting.
The new identity is creating true connection and affinity for Suburban Square. Through many brand activations within and around the place, Suburban Square has become a recognizable "Town Center" that is integral in people’s lives, and has attracted a perfect blend of local- and national-level retailers, businesses and amenities. Suburban Square has once again become a modern destination within classic architecture and just an all-around cool place to be.
