Saint Barnabas Medical Center

Saint Barnabas Medical Center (SBMC) is the oldest and largest non-profit, non-sectarian hospital in the State of New Jersey, and part of a merger that formed the RWJBarnabas Health System. Concurrent with the merger and the construction of a major addition to their existing facility, Exit analyzed of all existing signage, developed a wayfinding master plan to accommodate new vehicular and pedestrian routes, and created signage that supported the RWJBarnabas brand.

As part of Exit’s ongoing work with RWJBarnabas Health, we worked closely with SBMC’s leadership and its architect to evaluate, design, and implement a seamless wayfinding experience to serve visitors, patients, and staff at the new Cooperman Family Pavilion.

The initial scope of work included only the new pavilion, but quickly expanded to include interior and exterior wayfinding solutions for the entire campus.
The new signage follows a custom route system that uses brand coloration to accent hierarchical information.

This new wayfinding system not only works throughout this campus, but is also flexible and neutral enough to be successfully integrated into any campus or facility across the entire RWJBarnabas Health System.
