The Belmont Plateau in West Fairmount Park is one of the most historic and iconic courses in American cross-country. With infamously steep and rugged slopes, the Plateau has been host to countless races since the 1960’s. After decades of use, the trail was in a state of much-needed repair. A three-year fundraising effort supported the Belmont Plateau Trail Restoration Project, which included landscape and trail improvements as well as new course signage.
New trail wayfindng and interpretive signage was designed by Ex;it Design Strategies to improve the runners’ experience. This colorful, modern system includes trail markers, start and finish line identification, course maps, and West Fairmount park maps showing connections between the course and other trails in the Fairmount Park system.
