At the end of April, I represented ex;it as part of the International Sign Association (ISA) Hosted Cross Disciplinary Delegation for their 2016 Sign Expo in Orlando, Florida. As a way to promote a collaborative community between architects, designers, urban planners, brand managers, fabricators and suppliers, ISA had a special program where they selected 50 participants to be guests of the ISA. As part of the program, we visited the trade show floor, including small group appointments with ten sponsors. We also had access to two Game Changer Sessions and three networking events in which we got to know several practitioners within the signage industry.
The trade show was fantastic, nearly 600 exhibitors and over 20,000 participants. Digital signage, large format printers and LED lighting were probably the most represented trades. Our appointed visits with sponsors included sign fabricators, manufacturers of LED lighting, acrylics, vinyl, paints, printers, etc., giving us the opportunity to get a comprehensive presentation of their strengths and possibilities.
The Game Changer Sessions with Seth Madison, The Future of Work Today, and with Kenneth W. Gronbach, Charting the Course Through Demographic Change, were fascinating. Both are brilliant, gifted speakers, and their talks were definitely highlights of the week. We got to visualize the trends that will impact business over the next few years by understanding attitudes, behavior, cultural, economic and political phenomena.
Our program concluded with a guided visit to the Orlando Amway Arena in which we got to go through the signage system with representatives from the Orlando Magic as the building developers and eventually clients, the city of Orlando as operators, the fabricator and the designer. They explained the background of the entire project from the conception of the building to the current maintenance throughout the system. I thought it was unique experience and a fitting conclusion to a fantastic and very insightul expo.
