Ex;it has been chosen to lead the design process for transforming the 1100 block of Filbert Street at the Reading Terminal Market into a welcoming, vibrant outdoor space that integrates the arts while creating a strong sense of place.
During this project, supported by ArtPlace America, Ex;it will perform a Visitor Experience Assessment and Touchpointing Master Plan to present transformative opportunities such as lighting and public art strategy for the underpass connecting the Reading Terminal Market with the adjacent Jefferson Station transit hub. This work will be based on a series of Community Engagement work sessions and a detailed site analysis.
Joining the design team are Philadelphia-based companies Ground Reconsidered (formerly LRSLA), The Lighting Practice and J2 Design Partnership, who will converge to create the design vision and schematic design concepts.
Transforming this public space in Center City is an exciting opportunity for the Reading Terminal Market, the community and our design team. This project not only has the potential to help shape the economic development of this area but also to enhance the importance of experiencing public art to visitors and residents alike.
